Be realistic, demand the impossible

(prison project update)

… the Situationist slogan is stuck in my head after receiving last Friday email from David, the one about making presentations of our project pans, proposals…

It could be coming from the condition of my art background, and Goldsmiths Art department’s obsession about presentation, but I think it is utterly uncomfortable to present the work that haven’t reached a consensus – at least at the use of vocabulary, or theoretical perspectives.

The prison group took off early from 144, so we should keep you blogged on the results of our meeting with David, which was inspirational. I think I would not overestimate our collective experience of that, but a sense that we can actually take our ideas further was in the air. Much more freedom would be allowed, many more possibilities explored. We just need to get in, and start up. (and then, be alert)

Kate have nicely insisted on making a lovely  plain-text-bulletpoint-proposal now. And she was working on it this evening (well done!!!). We are planning to have it over very soon, so hopefully there would be another visit to Scrubs before Christmas.

Hopefully, not the last one.

    hey tatiana

Tuesday was really interesting and it demonstrated the importance of us continuing to work together for reflective thinking. Completely understand that making a presentation at this stage is a tricky one when the work hasn’t reached the consensus. and at the same time wondering if we would ever reach a consensus without these presentations. I am currently working for next Tuesday, and so glad that we have this invisible force making us to shape our ideas up even if it’s a difficult exercise. Suppose that the functions of giving presentations at this stage are both forcing a situation and creating an anchor point for our collective thinking. and it’s good that we are doing this now rather than later so that we have plenty of time left for us to develop our ideas further.

and yes, we really do need to get in and start up at the same time. look forward to hearing your updates soon.
