Very interesting – particularly the little bit about how the German National Olympic Committee will fund improvements to the Docklands site of the Museum of London (over and above paying rent) so they can have a lasting ‘legacy’.
That is interesting and useful info for the project’s collection I think. I wonder if having the Olympics occupying all these spaces would financially revive the country, or whether it would benefit private sectors mainly?! However, this article gives me an idea for the project on highlighting the areas in London that will be occupied by the Olympics.
Perhaps our collection for the museum could include anything that represents whatever is taken over by this huge event- not only the physical spaces, but also matters like advertising (including the sponsors’), articles, community events (forums in Basingstoke are preparing for a big event celebrating the Olympics at the end of June 2012), parties, else… On the other hand we could collect representations of people’s reaction/opinions about it, and any stories that show how people are effected/touched by it, whether London’s citizens or London’s visitors at the time of the games.
Only ideas!
